Prof. Mark Van Stone

Professor Mark Van Stone has a degree in Physics and began his academic work in the gamma-ray astronomy laboratory at the University of New Hampshire until his interest in ancient Hieroglyphs took centre stage.

He began studying the art and history of written forms about 40 years ago. He started with Celtic manuscripts such as the 7th/8th- century Books of Kells and Lindisfarne. Progressing to Roman and Greek inscriptions, and to Egyptian hieroglyphs. Later, living in Japan he studied Netsuke carving and calligraphy. His PhD is on Maya Hieroglyphs.

Dr. Van Stone combines a rare general understanding of all ancient scripts, but especially the Maya hieroglyphs, with an even rarer ability to write them, not just read them. In addition, with his physics background he is able to understand and appreciate the planetary aspects of the 2012 stories.

His website is http://markvanstone.com/

Today Mark Van Stone talks about the Ancient Maya Blood Sacrifices and explains, with some very thought-provoking examples, that the ancient sacrifices were not all that different to the human sacrifices we make everyday.
